Ventra App Reviews

Labor Day is a Weekend

Awful!! Purchased a Metra weekend pass and the app doesnt recognize Labor Day Monday as part of the weekend! So what do I do with the money spent on tickets I now cant use? You buy two tickets and its nearly impossible to go between the two tickets. I could get one to display but not the second! This is a horrible app!

The Obamacare website of transit apps

I registered my first Ventra card via this app to get the promised extra $5 in transit fare. This baiting is probably necessary as the app offers a terrible user experience. I had to delete and re-download the app because it was stuck on the blue loading screen. Then I went to see the card I had (allegedly) registered, only to be told that I hadnt registered any cards yet. However, upon trying to re-register that same card, I was told I had already registered it. So then I checked how much fare I had on my card, and (upon having to tediously enter the card # and exp. date) was displayed a fare. So whats going on?? Is my card registered or not? If so, why cant I see it under My Cards? And why wont the app load?? It just goes to show that apps developed by the government, and not by private firms, do not need to hold themselves accountable to shareholders and thus produce this kind of awful user interface.

Do not bother or waste your time.

this has to be one of the faultiest apps out there. I cant register my card, nor activate it with a proper credit card. All the morning Ive been late to school bc something within the app or card is messed up.

Mediocre at best

Buggy as all hell. Metra passes work ok, CTA card works, but there are so many extra floating Done buttons and lack of scrolling and weird button areas to make the buying and reloading process almost unusable. Quality assurance- it does exist, people.

This app will eat your bank account.

This app is the worst app I ever put on my phone. Not only was it buggy the 2 months I used it to commute on Metra, needing to delete and reinstall a dozen times due to freezing screen, it actually charged me for a 10 ride and never applied the rides to my account! Customer service is a joke, ended up just eating the $$$ just so I did not have to deal with them. The Ventra app roll out was just like the card rollout, AWFUL.

Works just fine

Intuitively laid out, and easy to use.

Just downloaded the app

So far I like tracking nearby stops. It helps and I love the potential I see so far that the app has to offer

Apple wallet and apple pay

Love the convenience of purchasing on phone. If they could add apple wallet functionality and apple pay it would be 5 stars

Terribly inaccurate

If you want to be late and miss your train, rely on the schedule on this app

awful

Horrible app. if I could give it zero stars I would. I got kicked off a train because it would not load.

Missed it

This app is difficult to use. We have 4 cards and I can only add value to one card at a time. What I dont understand is why they do things this way. Wouldnt one $20 transaction be cheaper to process than four $5 transactions. Its the same way on the web site. Puzzling! Also, I tried to add a new credit card for payment and was only prompted for billing address, not card number or anything else. I had to resort to using the web site to add the credit card. Very disappointing!

Visa card not accepting.

The app was doing great up until recently I was going to pay with my Visa card and it getting declined when I had funds. I called my bank and they said it wasnt them that they were taking money out of my account and refunding it back. Not sure whats going on. My card was also being declined at the oglivile station machines.

Password randomly stops working

On three separate occasions my password has stopped working for login. This usually happens when Im on the train and the conductor is approaching and Im trying to pull up my ticket. The app starts asking for the password. Wont accept the password. First two times I chalked it up to my forgetting the password. However this this third time I made sure to pick a very simple password.

Was working great until..

Ive been using this for almost two months, and the experience has been positive for the most part. The only negative Ive seen is that you must have the app open, otherwise when you switch back itll take you away from your ticket (on Metra). Anyways, this morning I tried to purchase a CTA 30 day pass, which it appears to have worked. However, it seems to have broken the app as 75% of the time the My Ventra Cards tab shows 0 and asks for me to add my card which is already added.

Doesnt sync, intermittently changes screens

I use the app for meters and CTA. The system is terrible and Im going back to paper Metra tickets. On occasions it cant sync with the server - despite there being a good connection (and other apps dont complain). While trying to display a ticket its jumped to the be Ventra card page asking me to register a card (when I already have one registered). Same old Ventra

Piece of junk

The app keeps telling me to register a card and then when I do it says I am already registered. Adding transit value was a nightmare, I almost didnt have money for the bus and in turn was going to be late for work. Too bad its the only to use.

Fix it already

So many bugs, it will randomly sign me out, or say that I dont have any cards associated with my account. Every Time I try to upload money, it logs me out. I cant even check my balance because its never up to date. Its been out for a while now... You would think that they would have fixed these kinds of things by now... Its pretty much a nice design with almost no functionality.

Great idea, Terrible app

This app routinely loses my saved credit card info and tells me my username or password are wrong (although I can log in to the website using the same), but then wont allow me to buy Metra tickets on the website I actually have access to and instead tells me to go to the app that it wont let me in. Horrible implementation, and so sad because it is such a necessary tool. Please work on this app so buying Metra tickets isnt such a massive headache each month.

Unstable and unreliable

I would not recommend this app. Most of the information entered during set up and payment seems to get lost or becomes inaccessible. It also seems to crash quite frequently. I would not recommend relying on this app as there is a big risk of getting stranded when it suddenly stops working.

My Favorites doesn’t work

On the Transit Tracker page, the My Favorites doesn’t work. It used to, but now it doesn’t.
