Ventra App Reviews

Bad

Buggy and not able to see fields when trying to create account

Dont use for Pace Buses

Completely unreliable. It says a bus is coming, it says a bus is due and then it says 18 mins until the next one. Its probably not just the Ventra App but the bus system as well. I dont know if a bus is scheduled to come and just not showing up or if the app is making up times. Either way, if you rely on a bus to catch another form of public transit that runs on time, then do not use this app.

Not worth it

Put my faith into this app when I was running late for Metra, the app didnt let me make a payment and ended up having to pay the $5 surcharge to buy a ticket on the train. Not reliable!!!

Terrible

This app is an embarrassment to anyone associated with it. Terribly designed, does not work, worst user experience Ive ever had on any app ever. This shouldnt even be allowed to exist in the app store until competent people are able to redesign and build it correctly.

Typical "Chicago Way" broken and unreliable

This app doesnt work. Was unable to place cc info into fields in order to buy a pass. This should make Michael Madigan comfortable.

Thanks Rahm

I rarely review things but I just couldnt believe how terrible this app is. I ride a bike or drive most places in Chicago but due to a recent accident Ive gotten back into an unhealthy relationship with the CTA. I love public transportation and in previous jobs it didnt flow as smoothly compared to riding a bike. No idea what theyre doing with all the profit after privatizing our infrastructure but its not going towards app development. After 5 tries to create a new account and unable to because every username in existence has been used I remembered I had an account from two years prior and was somehow able to resurrect it from the dead. After spending 20 minutes watching bus after bus pass me by I finally got to a point where I can enter my debit card and purchase some fare. After entering my debit card it prompts for a password one last time. Half way through entering this the app glitches out and disappears and I had to restart the process. I was finally able to enter everything and I guess Im good to go. No idea why this has to be so complicated when the Chicago Cards were so easy and I had zero trouble. Heres what Ive learned, dont try this if your in a hurry. Load as much money on it as you can so you limit your exposure to this terrible app. Good luck.

Good app

Very convenient, using three years, and never have any problems.

Terrible

iPhone 6S, app wont open a second time, you have to reinstall. And cant add a card to pay for a ticket, the buttons to add card or split payment dont do anything. Please fix it or at least do proper QA.

Mediocre

The app was nice the first time I used it. It was easy to setup, but there so many files, I get lost while Im looking for my account. Also it me 20 minutes to put money on the card. The online help didnt give me clear instructions on how to put money on my card. I had to figure it out myself. Also the app doesnt sync properly and gives me false information about how much money I have on the card. However, when all is lost, I resort to using the app. Im glad the app is there, but it can use some fixing here and there.

Does not work

Will not load current transit info in Chicago. Only finds Metra lines; no CTA.

Connectivity Loss

Tried using for the first time today. Could not get Metra schedule due to connectivity loss. Unusable.

Connectivity

Not reliable. Fix it.

Cant Add Value

Whenever you add value to the card it gets stuck on add to cart. It shows two done buttons in different locations. Both respond to tapping but neither submit.

A broken garbage app...

...much like the broken garbage company that its named after. Roughly as effective as squinting into the distance to see if your bus or train is nearby.

Doesnt work

Having the same issue as many folks as the screen grays out when trying to input my information for the monthly pass. Account set up was easy but cant pay for anything. Have an iPhone 6s.

Half thought out app

This app is much more difficult to use than it should be. Getting it set up initially took an extremely long time. Order history just doesnt work at all. I reset my password today, and was emailed a new one which they say expires in 24 hours. I used that password to log into the app, but it never prompted me to change the password. So I had to manually go in to the area of the app where you can change your password and change it. If I hadnt done that I suspect that I would be locked out of it again in 24 hours.

Awesome

I wish I had found this app sooner. Reloading my card and checking train times is great and saves me lots of time. No problems so far, used for L and Metra.

Pooh-Pooh

Doesnt allow me to sign it. After numerous attempts, I had it change my password. Still no go - after multiple attempts. I wanted to buy tickets ahead of time, in case we had a tight connection in Union Station. Impossible. Very disappointed! This isnt rocket science for an IT person that knows what they are doing. Absolutely no excuse for such inept programming.

Convenient...

Very convenient app. However, it drains the battery on my phone very quickly.

Has Potential

This app works for adding fare to my account. It saved me on the Metra when I had to buy a weekend pass cheaper than with cash. I wish that I could charge a minimum of $1 like the kiosks for the CTA, but it is increments of $5 only. Can be improved but does work.
